"The 120 Years Of Genesis 6:3"

Genesis 6:3  And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

In order to properly study our Father`s Word, one must understand the parts of speech: which consist of the following, (1). The noun. (2). The verb. (3). The pronoun. (4). The adjective. (5). The adverb. (6). The preposition. (7). The conjunction. (8). The injection. And must be able to identify the subject, and object.

(1). A noun is the name of a person place or thing. (2). A verb shows action performed by the subject. (3). A pronoun is a word that stands for a noun. (4). A adjective is a word that modifies a noun or pronoun, such as, the orange, or the man. (5). A adverb modifies a verb or another adverb. Adverbs answers questions, such as, how, how much, when, where, and why. (6). A preposition shows the relationship between a noun or the pronoun. (7). A conjunction are words that join or link elements. (8). A injection are words that express a burst of emotion. These must agree in gender, to whom they refer.

There are four principal Hebrew words rendered “man,” and these must be carefully discriminated (1). Adam, denotes his origin, as being made from the “dust,” of the Adamah. (2). Ish, has regard to “sex,” a male. (3). Enosh, has regard to his “infirmities,” as physically mortal, and as to character, incurable. (4). Geber, has respect to his “strength,” a mighty man.

“Adam” without the article, denotes man or mankind in general, followed by the plural pronoun. With the article, it denotes “the man,” Adam, though rendered man. Adam, means man or men, and it is used of the descendants of Adam, the Adamites. Hence, Christ is called “the son of Adam,” not the son Enosh, because of the Genealogy of Christ, (Luke the 3rd chapter). With the particle (eth) in addition to the article it is very striking, and means self, very, this same, this very, as in (Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.). Which means “earth born.”

In is written in “The Work`s of Josephus,” in “Book One,” (chapter 1:32-33), On the sixth day he create the four- footed beasts, and made them male and female: on the same day he also formed man. Accordingly to Moses says, That in just six days the world and all that is therein was made: and that the seventh day was a rest, and a release from the labor of such operations: whence it is that we celebrate a rest from our labors on that day, and call it the Sabbath: which word denotes rest in the Hebrew tongue. “Book One“, (chapter 2: 34) Moreover, Moses says that after the seventh day was over, begins to talk philosophically: and concerning the formation of man, says thus: That God took dust from the ground, and formed man: and inserted in him a spirit and a soul. This man was called Adam, which in the Hebrew tongue signifies one that is red, because he was formed out of red earth, compounded together: for of that kind is virgin and true earth.”

“Ish,” equal male. A male in contrast with a woman. A great man in contrast to ordinary men. Low are called the children of man, high are called the children of Ish, (Psalm 62:9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.). Ishah, equal woman.

“Enosh,” equal men of name in a bad sense. Morally depraved, and physically frail, weak. (Jeremiah 15:18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?).

“Geber,” first occurrence, (Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.). Mighty Men, and denotes man in respect to his physical strength.

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. The 120 years of Genesis the 6th chapter, the 3rd verse are usually taken as referring to the one hundred and twenty years of probation before the Flood. But, is this the case? The Authorized Version reads, “God” said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he is also flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

There are several traditional interpretations of this verse, all equally unsatisfactory. There is the Rabbinical one which makes it refer to Moses`s age. The popular idea is that it refers to the period of probation between that time and of the flood: another explanation refers it to the altered duration of human life.

But, if we note accurately of the words employed another interpretation will be suggested.

(1). The word rendered “man,” in the Hebrew is (aw-dam), which means, ruddy, that is, a human being: an individual or the species of mankind. It occurs thirty-seven times in these early chapters of Genesis, from Genesis the 1st to the 6th chapter, and is rendered Adam nineteen times, and man eighteen times. It occurs without the article twelve times.

(2). It occurs with the article (“ha Adam”) (“the man”), twenty-one times.

(3). It occurs not only with the article, but without this and the very strong demonstrative (eth) four times. Eth means self, this same, this very, and is quite emphatic.

(4). Number 2 and 3, always mean the man, (“ha Adam”), Adam.

Where it occurs without the article it is rendered “Adam,” except in (Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.), and (Genesis 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.), where it is rendered “man.”

Where it is used without the article and with the pronoun and verb in the plural number, as in (Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. ). It denotes “man,” or “mankind,” as such. Let us make “man” (“singular“), and let “them” have dominion.

Genesis 1:27, So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. This creation of man in the Hebrew is (“aw-dawn”), which means, species of mankind. This is when the different races were created. Both male and females, were created at the same time, and it occurred on the sixth day, (Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.). This is the reason, why, “Cain” could go to the land of Nod, to get a wife, (Genesis 4:16-17 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.).

One must understand that God, is natural, and all that He does its natural: always bearing in mind (2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.).

God had said in (Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.), but we read in (Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.), “that man,” the “6th” day creation, was created after the “imagine” of God, but not after His “likeness.”

Likeness in the Hebrew is (daw-maw), which mean to (“think“), similitude. These species of mankind, that were created on the sixth day, had some physical characteristic of God, but did not think, as God thought.

The word “after” in the Hebrew is (aw-khar), which mean to “delay.” The created act to make “man” after the “likeness,” of God, or to “think” as God was postponed, until, the “eighth” day of His creation, or the “New First.”

Note, (Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.). And, God, realized that He had no man to till the ground, (Genesis 2:5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.). And, so after resting on the “7th day,” He formed (“ha Adam”), (’the man”) “Adam,” (Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.).

The “Adamites,” descendants of “Adam,” thought as God thought, because God was their teacher, (Genesis 5:1-2 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.). Notice the word “likeness.”

It should be noted, that Adam, did not give his wife a name until they were expelled from the garden, she was always referred to, as “woman,” (Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.). This has significance important, as to identify the seed, through which the “Lord Jesus” would come. This is why Eve is called “the mother of all living.” “All shall live afterwards“, that believe on the “Lord Jesus.”

Another passing note, when God asked in (Genesis 3:13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.). This word woman in the Hebrew is (ish-shaw), which means (adulteress). For, another study.

God did in (Genesis 2:21-22 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.). The word “rib” in the Hebrew is (tsal-aw), which means a “curved,” or the “side.” Those who are familiar, or understand the study of biogenetic, and the functions of “chromosomes,” this should be simple.

All humans have two sets of chromosomes, one male (“the father”), and one female (“the mother”). When Adam was formed, all his chromosomes, were of male gender, and this is why God took one his chromosomes, or curved, as stated in the Hebrew, to make the woman.

One of the threadlike "packages" of genes and other DNA in the nucleus of a cell. Different kinds of organisms have different numbers of chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, 46 in all: 44 autosomes and two sex chromosomes. Each parent contributes one chromosome to each pair, so children get half of their chromosomes from their mother and half from their father.

It is also worthy to note that God stated in (Genesis 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.). “Kind after kind.” This is important as you will see later.

It is written in (Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed). And, (Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.), God, has never changed that which He has revealed.

It is often supposed that prior to the “Mosaic Law” mankind was left to themselves, but such was not the case. Mankind as a whole was in a sense “under law,” but it was “unwritten law.” There was a law against “adultery” (Genesis 12:18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?). There was a law pertaining to "monogamy" (Genesis 20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.). There was an law against "fornication" (Genesis 34:7 And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done.). Which should silence, the teaching of demons, who state, that all mankind, are the offspring of Adam, and Eve.

But we must return to our special point, which is this: : The different races were created on the “6th day,” and the “Adamites” was formed on the “8th day.” Keep this in mind, and it will flow smoothly as we continue.

This “8th day” creation of man, also fell (Genesis 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; ). But he will be made anew, (Isaiah 43:18-19 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.). The how, (Ezekiel 11:19-20 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.).

In (Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them.). We have Adam in the singular, with the article, and means, “Adam began to multiply, and daughters were born to them.” Here the plural pronoun shows that Eve is associated with Adam as in (Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.).

In (Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.). It means “the man” Adam, because it has the article and is followed by the pronoun and the verb in the Singular Number: “because that he also is flesh.” The Hebrew is (beshaggam hu), “because that he also.” This has no sense whatever if it does not refer to the man Adam. To whom does the word “also” refer if it refers not to him? If men as such were meant, it would say, “for they also are flesh”: but it says, “for that he also is.” That is to say, Adam had become like the others. He was flesh as they were. All flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. Noah and his family alone had preserved their breed “perfect” (Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.). “Perfect” in the Hebrew is (taw-meem), which means, without blemish.

The word “generations” occurs twice in Genesis 6:9. The first time it means Noah`s family history, (Toledoth): but the second is a different word (Dor), and means his contemporaries.

This is the third reference to the man Adam`s end. In (Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.). It was prophetically announced. In (Genesis 3:22-24 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.). (Lest), in the Hebrew is (Pane), and means (not). He was driven out from the tree of life that he might not eat and live forever. And now, here, the actual year of his death was fixed. He should live 120 years more, but not forever.

In (Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.). We have a chronological indication of the date of this announcement. Adam lived, altogether 930 years. If we deduct from this 120 years, we get A.M. (Anno Mundi) 810 as the date. But the corruption spoke of in this chapter must have commenced much earlier.

The word rendered “strive” is (dun). It occurs only here. The Ancient Versions (the Septuagint) gives it the sense of remaining or dwelling. It is right: and (Genesis 6:3) actually says is “My spirit” or, “breath of life” shall not always remain in Adam, for that he also is “flesh.” Compare (Isaiah 57:16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made). “Spirit,” here, must mean “breath,” or “life,” as in (Genesis 6:17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.).

In (Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.). The Adamites had God`s Spirit. It is only by the Divine specific act of creation that any creating being can be called the “son of God.” For that which is “born of flesh is flesh.” God is Spirit, and that which is “born of Spirit is spirit,” (John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.). Hence Adam is called a “son of God,” (Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.).

The flood was necessary, because the Adamites, descendants of Adam, had become mixed with the fallen angels, (Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.). Only Noah and his family had preserved their pedigree pure from Adam. All the rest had become “corrupt” (“shachath”) destroyed as Adamites. The only remedy was to destroyed them (the Adamites), as they had become destroyed.

This irruption of the fallen angels was Satan`s first attempt to prevent the coming of the Seed of the women foretold in (Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.). Seed in the Hebrew is (Zeh-rah), and means (child).

It is written in the Book of (Enoch 15:1-10 The addressing me, He spoke and said: Hear, neither be afraid, O Enoch, O righteous man, and scribe of righteousness: approach hither, and hear my voice. Go, say to the Watchers of heaven, who have sent thee to pray for them: You ought to pray for men, and not men for you. Wherefore have you forsaken the lofty and holy heaven, which endures for ever, and have lain with women: have defiled yourselves with the daughters of men: have taken to yourselves wives: have acted like the sons of the earth, and have begotten giants ? You being spiritual, holy, and living a life which is eternal, have polluted yourselves with women: have begotten in carnal blood: have lusted in the blood of men: and have done as those who are flesh blood do. These however die and perish. Therefore have I given to them wives, that they might cohabit with them: that sons might be born to them, and that this might be transacted upon earth. But you from beginning were made spiritual, living a life which is eternal, and not subject to death in all the generations of the world. Therefore I made not wives for you, because being spiritual, your dwelling is in heaven. Now the giants, who have been born of flesh and of spirit, shall call upon earth evil spirits, and on earth shall be their habitation. Evil spirits shall proceed from their flesh, because they were created from above: from the holy Watchers was their beginning and primary foundation. Evil spirits shall be upon earth, and the spirits of the wicked shall they be called. The habitation of the spirits of heaven shall be in heaven: but upon earth shall be the habitation of terrestrial spirits, who are born in earth. The spirit of the giants shall be like clouds, which shall oppress, corrupt, fall, contend, and bruise upon earth. They shall cause lamentation. No food shall they eat: and they shall be thirsty: they shall be concealed, and those spirits shall rise up against the sons of men, and against women: for they come forth from them during the days of slaughter and destruction.

Enoch 18:16 The stars which roll over fire are those which transgressed the commandment of God before their time arrived: for they came not in their proper season. Therefore was He offended with them, and bound them, until the period of the consummation of their crime in the secret year. Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. The Lord Jesus, was the last of the “Adamites,” (the seed of Adam). Luke 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, The genealogy ends with the lord Jesus, as it had its beginning with God, Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
